Personal Stories

I was the person sitting in the pew thinking…  “I would love to go on a mission trip, BUT…”  I thought of a million and one reasons NOT to go.  We don’t have enough money…  I don’t know enough about the Bible…  I can’t leave my kids for that long…  What, no curling iron?????  Let me tell you that is Satan preying on your emotions.  You just have to trust in the Lord and in His works and He WILL set your paths straight!  Please don’t let your fear and doubts keep you from doing God’s will.
I personally think everyone should go on a mission trip at least once.  It changed my view on life FOREVER!  The biggest lesson God taught me after going to Mexico 2 years ago is that life is not based on worldly possessions, but it is based on relationships.  I need to take my focus off of THINGS and focus on my relationship with God and my relationships with others.   I can truly say I came back a different person.  God showed me in one week the person I want to be. I want to be more Christ like and I can’t necessarily accomplish that from the safety of my pew.  I personally needed that one week of uninterrupted God and me time.  So many times we pray to God and we don’t hear Him when He replies.  We are simply too busy.  Mission Trips are a great time to let go of worldly obligations and do what God wants you to do.  It is a time to build friendships that last a life time, to build character, to grow closer to God, to truly LISTEN to God, and to show His love by helping people in need.  Do you have to go on a mission trip to do these things?  No, of course you don’t.  There are people in this very community that need help and we can be Jesus to those folks.  But, going on these mission trips taught me how to give up control and let God lead me to do His will.  I needed that uninterrupted time for God to work on my heart. Whether you are lead to go on a mission trip in a third world country, a neighboring state, or serve at local food bank, I hope you will LISTEN to HIM when He is working on your heart as well!
